Twin Cities Sustainable Communities Conference

March 12 & 13, 2010: Linking Citizens and Cities for Sustainable Communities

Two free separate sustainability events are being held in Minneapolis on March 12 and 13, 2010 (at Central Lutheran Church, 333 12th Street South) as sponsored by the Alliance for Sustainability, Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Hennepin County, League of Minnesota Cities, and others.

Local Government Sustainability Workshop, Friday, March 12, noon - 5:00 pm
- for local government staff, elected officials, and citizen leaders

The goals of this half-day event include highlighting effective sustainability best practices included in the new MN GreenStep Cities program, helping cities simplify their sustainability efforts by using sustianability indicators, and linking local governments with grants and innovative funding tools for thier sustainability projects.

Breakout sessions will include a wide range of topics, relating to energy, food, forestry, planning, waste collection, transporatation and more.

Neighborhood Sustainability Conference, Saturday, March 13, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
- for volunteers from neighborhoods, congregations, and schools

The goals of this full-day event include supporting volunteers to green their neighborhood, congregation, school or business, and supporting citizens to partner with their city to enact sustainable local policies.

Breakout sessions include energy, gardening, transition initiatives, safer streets, community design, skill building, and much more.
